    99-year-old WWII veteran reflects on Iwo Jima's 80th anniversary

    99-year-old WWII professional William “Dollar” Myers shared his tale from the Fight of Iwo Jima throughout its 80th wedding anniversary in 2025.

    Philly, — 99-year-old WWII professional William “Dollar” Myers lives to inform the story of the Fight of Iwo Jima on its 80th wedding anniversary.
    ” We were going through fire at the moment,” he stated, remembering the surges on the island in 1945. “It has a particular distinctive odor to it.”
    The South Philly indigenous remembers being struck in the back with shrapnel and was granted the Purple Heart.
    ” I’ll always remember it, I’ll inform you the fact,” he stated. “It wakes me up sometimes, simply the various points that took place, actually.”
    60 years after the fight, Myers rejoined with a fellow Iwo Jima professional, Arthur Gavlock.
    Gavlock was looking for his long-lost companions and his granddaughter, Holly Fantaskey Jermyn, aided him make the link.
    After the get-together, Gavlock remained to remain in touch with Myers and also maintained his telephone number composed on his night table.
    Gavlock died in 2010, yet his granddaughter continued to be gotten in touch with Myers and his family members.
    Today, Fantaskey Jermyn and Myers rejoined to inform their tale on the 80th wedding anniversary of the Fight of Iwo Jima.
    Myers is a big Philly Eagles follower, a grandpa, and a great-grandfather. He motivated his grand sons to sign up with the army.
