DALLAS — Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott has been released, according to confirmation from two front office sources to WFAA.

Elliott rejoined the Cowboys for a second stint during the offseason after spending one season with the New England Patriots. Serving as Rico Dowdle’s backup, Elliott has appeared in 15 games this year, amassing 226 yards and three touchdowns on 74 carries.

Originally selected as the No. 4 overall pick by Dallas in the 2016 NFL Draft, Elliott twice led the NFL in rushing (2016, 2018). He was named a first-team All-Pro in his rookie year (2016) and has earned Pro Bowl honors three times (2016, 2018, 2019).

Dallas wraps their 2024-25 season on Sunday against the Washington Commanders.

The Dallas Cowboys are releasing RB Ezekiel Elliott, a front office source confirms.

That front office source said via text that they want Zeke to have the opportunity to sign with a playoff contender.
